Grocery Spotlight: Cauliflower Sandwich Thins

While I love a good toasted sprouted grain bread slice, when I’m looking to balance or control my carbohydrate intake, I like to look for fun alternatives. Bonus points if it adds a serving or two of veggies! This is why these Cauliflower Sandwich Thins from Outer Aisle are a MUST TRY for sandwich, turkey/veggie burger or taco lovers. Unlike other products made with cauliflower (like many “cauliflower” pizza crusts), these sandwich thins are made with real, whole foods and limited (only 4!) ingredients.

The first ingredient is fresh cauliflower (not cauliflower flour) which indicates that cauliflower is in fact the main ingredient in this product. It is followed by whole eggs, parmesan cheese, and nutritional yeast. That’s it. Many other products claiming to be cauliflower-based list cauliflower as the third or fourth ingredient and may have added starches like potato starch, cornstarch or other fillers and stabilizers that are unnecessary.

At only 50 calories per piece, it fits perfectly in a lower calorie diet. With only 3 grams of carbohydrates (one of those grams being fiber) per serving, it can also be easily enjoyed on a low carbohydrate diet plan. It also provides about 4.5 grams of protein per piece which helps to bump up your protein intake! Being that it is in fact veggie based, it also serves up decent amounts of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin C and calcium. That’s definitely more than what you’d get from white bread. It also does not taste gritty, grainy, or like cardboard. It actually tastes good (in my opinion)! You can use it to hold a sandwich or burger together, as a taco wrap, or as the base for a modified “pizza.” The possibilities are endless with this one!

You can find these Cauliflower Sandwich Thins at Costco, Walmart Supercenter or Markets, Sprouts Farmers Markets, Whole Foods, or online at outeraislegourmet.com.
